Mr Nima Heidari

MBBS, MSc, FRCS (Tr&Orth)

Consultant Orthopaedic & Specialist Foot & Ankle Surgeon

Mr Heidari is an expert orthopaedic and trauma surgeon who specialises in treating foot and ankle conditions including trauma, sports injuries and lower limb reconstruction. Vastly experienced, he is a renowned teacher and much published author in his field. He is a consultant at The Royal London Hospital, the largest trauma centre in the UK and one the busiest in Europe, where he treats the most severely injured patients. He teaches junior surgeons on a daily basis and is actively involved in the education group for AO Trauma, an international network dedicated to improving outcomes in trauma and musculoskeletal disorders.

Mr Nima Heidari

Mr Heidari is best known for his work in the fields of bone infection and limb reconstruction, with particular expertise in dealing with failure of bone fixation or infection following fracture or other causes. As part of his work at The Royal London Hospital, where he has been a consultant since 2012, he has established a regional Foot and Ankle Unit; a Bone Infection Unit and Orthoplastics Department. In his private practice he provides a tertiary referral service for difficult fractures and fixation and post-operative infection.

He is very aware of the profound effect foot and ankle pain or injury can have on a person’s quality of life and he aims to provide his patients with the optimal treatment, whether surgical or non-surgical, to achieve the best possible outcome.

In 1998, Mr Heidari qualified from St George’s Hospital before undertaking his orthopaedic and trauma training at The Royal London Hospital and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009. After finishing his training in 2011, he worked at the Bristol Limb Reconstruction Unit, gaining expertise in the management of foot and ankle pathology, complex trauma and lower limb reconstruction.

Mr Heidari has travelled widely in the interests of furthering his knowledge and has amassed fellowship experience in trauma and foot and ankle surgery from many centres of excellence in Europe, Canada and the USA, including: Hospital for Special Surgery (New York), Rothman Institute (Philadelphia), Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre (California), University of Utah Orthopaedic Centre (Salt Lake City) Medical University of Graz (Austria), University Hospital of Lille (France). In 2012, following his Travelling Fellowship in the USA and Canada, he became a Fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust.

Author of over 60 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and several book chapters, Mr Heidari has written extensively about techniques for limb reconstruction, bone biologics, minimally invasive techniques of fracture fixation and response of the growing bone to injury. He has also been the Principal Investigator for a number of National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) studies at The Royal London Hospital.

As well as training junior surgeons at The Royal London Hospital, he regularly teaches courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the UK and Europe has chaired the AO Trauma UK advanced foot fracture course for the past four years.

Mr Nima Heidari explaining the benefits of joint distraction of the ankle

Mr Heidari is not just a superb orthopaedic surgeon working at the very leading edge of his chosen specialist field, but he is also the most considerate and polite person, genuinely interested to improve a patient’s predicament for the long term. It is a pleasure to unhesitatingly recommend him to others.
