Professor Adrian Wilson MBBS, BSc (Hons), FRCS, FRCS (Tr&Orth) is a leading knee and sports injury specialist who has a global reputation for knee realignment surgery (osteotomy) and has developed revolutionary techniques for sports injury repair. He is an expert in treating children’s knee problems.

He has developed evidence-based techniques for minimally invasive procedures such as knee realignment (osteotomy) and anterior cruciate ligament repair (ACL). He uses a minimally invasive technique to treat ACL injuries in children and this has resulted in quicker recovery times and better long-term outcomes.
Professor Wilson introduced adipose tissue therapy to the UK. This therapy often takes place alongside other surgery and uses the body’s own natural repair cells to help reduce pain and increase activity levels for patients with arthritis.
He is a co-founder of the first national database for osteotomy surgery – UK Knee Osteotomy Registry (UKKOR). In 2007 he helped establish the Basingstoke Osteotomy Masterclass and his centre is recognised by the European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) Osteotomy travelling fellowship.
Professor Wilson is a member of the ESSKA Arthroscopy and Osteotomy Committees and is a visiting Professor to the Department of Sport and Exercise at Winchester University.
Visitors from the UK and abroad regularly come to observe him performing osteotomy and ligament surgery.
After qualifying with a BSc in Biochemistry from Manchester University in 1989, Professor Wilson studied medicine at St Bartholomew’s medical school and graduated in 1994. In 2004 he undertook his fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Brisbane Orthopaedic Centre with Peter Myers.
Professor Adrian Wilson may recall operating on my son, RD in August 2016. Rowan has successfully returned to swimming last autumn and ball sports in December and is now back to playing tennis (county level) and cricket competitively. It’s now impossible to tell that he ever injured his knee.
Professor Wilson performed a High Tibial Osteotomy procedure on my right knee in September 2015 and my left knee in March of this year. The difference has been amazing – I’m back to long walks with our dog and the sports I enjoy. Professor Wilson and his team come highly recommended.
Although early days, it appears that my operation has been a great success. I would certainly return to Prof. Wilson without hesitation, if the need arises in the future. Based on my own experience, I would recommend unreservedly Prof. Wilson and his team. For me, they did a great job.
Mr Wilson performed a very successful partial knee replacement for me in 2017. The whole process went according to plan and was smooth and efficient. My recovery was swift and I now have no pain and no restricted movement in my knee. Thank you for your care, I would highly recommend Mr Wilson.
Professor Wilson carried out an ACL repair procedure on my 11 year old in February 2017, following a skiing accident. He was delighted to be playing competitive rugby and football again by the beginning of the following season. I have recommended Professor Wilson to a number of friends and will continue to do so. We are delighted with the results.
My treatment has been outstanding all round and I’m extremely grateful to the whole team involved. It goes without saying that I am extremely grateful to Professor Wilson for all his hard work on my behalf and I’m very glad that he recommended we stay locally for 2 weeks to access the excellent after care and expertise on offer.
