Professor Adrian Wilson

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon – Adult and Paediatric

Professor Adrian Wilson MBBS, BSc (Hons), FRCS, FRCS (Tr&Orth) is a leading knee and sports injury specialist who has a global reputation for knee realignment surgery (osteotomy) and has developed revolutionary techniques for sports injury repair. He is an expert in treating children’s knee problems.

Professional memberships:

British Association for Surgery of the Knee
International Affiliate Member of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
British Orthopaedic Association
Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England
British Medical Association
European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy
European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery Arthroscopy Committee
European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery Osteotomy Committee

He has developed evidence-based techniques for minimally invasive procedures such as knee realignment (osteotomy) and anterior cruciate ligament repair (ACL). He uses a minimally invasive technique to treat ACL injuries in children and this has resulted in quicker recovery times and better long-term outcomes.

Professor Wilson introduced adipose tissue therapy to the UK. This therapy often takes place alongside other surgery and uses the body’s own natural repair cells to help reduce pain and increase activity levels for patients with arthritis.

He is a co-founder of the first national database for osteotomy surgery – UK Knee Osteotomy Registry (UKKOR). In 2007 he helped establish the Basingstoke Osteotomy Masterclass and his centre is recognised by the European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) Osteotomy travelling fellowship.

Professor Wilson is a member of the ESSKA Arthroscopy and Osteotomy Committees and is a visiting Professor to the Department of Sport and Exercise at Winchester University.

Visitors from the UK and abroad regularly come to observe him performing osteotomy and ligament surgery.

After qualifying with a BSc in Biochemistry from Manchester University in 1989, Professor Wilson studied medicine at St Bartholomew’s medical school and graduated in 1994. In 2004 he undertook his fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Brisbane Orthopaedic Centre with Peter Myers.
