How we assess shoulder and elbow problems

Your assessment starts with a detailed consultation. Your consultant will ask about your symptoms, how they began and how they’re affecting your day-to-day. They’ll then examine your shoulder or elbow, looking at movement, strength and stability to identify the likely cause.

If needed, your consultant will arrange imaging such as X-ray, ultrasound or MRI to confirm the diagnosis. but only when it will help guide your treatment plan.

You’ll then be given a clear explanation of what’s going on and the options available, so you can decide on your next step with confidence.
