Introduction

Mr Thomas Hester is a highly regarded consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle conditions. Currently working at Kings College Hospital, a major trauma and tertiary referral centre, he has a keen interest in research and innovation in his field of expertise. Tom was part of the surgical team with Broken Earth Medical Mission to Guatemala, where he used it as an opportunity to apply advanced trauma (ATLS) principles in a challenging setting.

Tom is a conscientious, proactive and caring consultant who is dedicated to delivering the best possible outcomes for his patients.

About Mr Thomas Hester

Mr Hester graduated from St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine with Distinction in 2006. He was awarded a 1st in his BSc with Honours from UCL in 2005 and the Scales Prize for Orthopaedic Science. He went on to achieve a MSc (Hons) at the University of Brighton.

Having completed his orthopaedic training on the South East London Training Rotation, he undertook a British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Visiting Foot & Ankle Fellowship to Toronto; a British Orthopaedic Society Travelling Fellowship to Calgary specialising in Complex Trauma, and a further Foot and Ankle Fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. Mr Hester now works as an NHS consultant at Kings College Hospital, a major trauma and tertiary referral centre, where he maintains an active role in education both undergraduate and postgraduate training.

He currently specialises in a variety of foot and ankle conditions, including minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy), ligament injuries, ankle fractures, cartilage damage, bunions and heel pain. He has contributed to many professional journals and publications and used his interest in IT to design a surgically oriented app together with an online training module. He has undertaken many professional development courses, both surgical and managerial, and is currently collaborating in several notable research projects. Outside work, he is a motorsport enthusiast, enjoys snowboarding and is a PADI qualified open water diver.
