Introduction

Dr Beasley qualified in 1982 from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. He was an active student, being Student Union Secretary, Football Club Captain, as well as serving on various student committees. He was awarded a scholarship to study Sports Medicine in London in 1986, and passed his diploma with merit a year later. He gained his MSc in 1997 and was a foundation fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine at its advent. Despite training as a GP, he succumbed to the attraction of working in football, and has done so since 1987. He holds a Certificate in Ultrasound Scanning from the School of Medical Ultrasound in Bournemouth.

About Dr Beasley

He has worked in all four professional football divisions in England as team physician, including at Chelsea, Fulham, Arsenal, West Ham, and Bournemouth of the EPL.  He was national team doctor for the England men’s team, and Chief Medical Officer for the English FA from 2009 to 2016, and accompanied the national team to World Cups and European Championships.  In 2012, he was appointed as a Sports Physician by Team GB for the London Olympics. He was Venue Medical Officer for FIFA at the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

He was Chief Medical Officer for England and Great Britain Hockey for ten years, and attended Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and World Cups with the national squads.

In 2019, he was recruited by the world-famous Aspetar Hospital in Qatar and worked there for two years, returning home for family reasons.

He was Senior Lecturer in Sport and Excise Medicine at Queen Mary College, London University, and clinical lead in SEM at Barts Health NHS Trust, and completed a certificate in Learning and Teaching whilst there.

  • Medical Adviser to the Royal Ballet Co., London.
  • Venue Medical Officer for FIFA.
  • Board member of the International Concussion and Head Injury Research Foundation.

Dr Beasley regularly lectures to international audiences on various themes in Football Medicine, Team Medicine, and other SEM topics .

He was voted ‘The Athletes Doctor of Choice’ in The Times Magazine in November 2010.

Dr Beasley was awarded a Smith & Nephew scholarship to study sports medicine at the Royal London Hospital, and took his diploma with merit in 1987. He was a foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and has served on the UEFA Medical Committee. Dr Beasley is now is Senior Lecturer in sports and exercise medicine at the Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine, Queen Mary College, and Clinical Lead in sports and exericse medicine at Bart’s Health NHS Trust.
